Hi From Dublin!

INSPIRATIONFiona LeahyComment

My mind is buzzing. Always. I constantly feels like a Fiat 500 is doing a crash test that is happening in my brain. On my mind lately is how my style is evolving. I don't want to make this dramatic or a post about *~FiNDiNG MySeLF~*; but the way I dress has always been a reflection of my identity. I recently moved; I left Los Angeles and moved to Dublin, Ireland. When I told people I was moving, many people asked what I was running away from. And to tell the absolute truth: nothing. My life in Los Angeles was an absolute dream. And sometimes being too comfortable is uncomfortable, especially for a person who's mind is buzzing faster than she can even comprehend. That's kind of my problem- I get distracted so easily. And I know that an attention disorder sounds like a total millennial disease but I've got it pretty severely. So I'm here, on the other side of the world and I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing but at least I have the time to sit and write rather than attending another chicken wing special happy hour. And I hope while I'm here I start to write more.

Before I get completely off topic, here is what has been buzzing in my mind lately style-wise. So much plaid, mixing prints, sneakers (haha coming from me), off-the-shoulder jackets, lob-like hair, crochet sweaters, peachy lipstick, oversized coats, nude colors, and fairytale-like shimmery highlighter.

A few styles on Tumblr that I love rn. I'm not sure if this at all makes sense and/or correlates with my above description; that'll just help you understand the mess in my mind. I'd love if you'd share your fav styles rn with me too.

Living Room Chic

SO LA, INSPIRATIONFiona LeahyComment

My newest project has been to put my vintage hoarding to use, and give my living room a makeover. Every piece in this space was a result of an impulse purchase that was hand-picked, hand-carried (except the couch, I needed like 7 people's help to get it in here), and curated by me. I have absolutely no formal training in interior design; I always wanted to take a class in college but those were the classes that always had extreme wait lists and had no beneficial graduating credits. So here I am: self-taught by Pinterest and inspired by Tumblr. The first piece I purchased was the 12 foot long couch. One piece, solid wood, from the 1970's. She was hoisted thru my 3rd story balcony. Then everything else from coffee table books to vintage barware, was added to compliment her piece-by-piece.

Where did I find all this stuff? I dig. Thrift stores, flea markets, estate sales, Craigslist, selling apps. I have mastered it all. Every piece I find is a treasure and has a good story. I bought all my plants off a man moving to Portland on Letgo for $25. I named all the plants after characters on Big Little Lies; Ronada is now on my balcony because she got too tall. I carried my magazine stand after purchasing half a mile to my car that I left in a free parking lot. My red goblets I found in a Goodwill and bargained with a man who also wanted the set, so I let him have half. I only have 6 glasses instead of 12. Later I realized the glasses were numbered for the set, I have glasses 1, 2, 4, 8, 9 and 11.

My inspiration behind this room: 1970's Los Angeles, my interest in *wanting* to believe in crystal healing and a romantic charm.

Enjoy photos below! I hope you love it as much as I do. For questions about redecorating, feedback or consultation on how to revamp your space. Feel free to email me fiona@tealkitty.com, I'd love that.

Light Jacket

MY LOOKSFiona LeahyComment

I have the most worn-in denim jacket, ever. It's a flea market find, and these pictures don't even begin to show how raggedy this thing is. Also, here's another outfit of mine wearing denim on denim. I have my phone number written inside my jacket like I'm a 3rd grader; hoping that if I ever god-forbid lost it, that it would come back to me. The gold angel pin on the collar is something that I hand-picked out of my grandma's costume jewelry trinket box when she passed. I love it. Slowly adding pins and patches to this has been fun for me. I highly encourage bedazzling a favorite vintage piece like this. Any suggestions on where to find vintage pins? Do you have a fun denim jacket? Let's talk.

Photos taken by my very very amazing friend, LA/SF based photographer Adam Dillon. Vintage Levis worn with Flynn Skye's Avery bodysuit and Gentle Monster sunglasses.

Kitty-ing Around

MY LOOKSFiona LeahyComment

With this red hair, I have to be careful what I wear so I don't look like Christmas decor. I'm usually a little more colorful with my wardrobe but lately when I'm not wearing all black looking like a ~gothic princess~, I'm wearing neutrals like this. Love this romper and it's a super easy outfit for when you wake up late, you're super hungover going to brunch, trying to pretend you tried etc etc.

Got this romper on Tobi and you can get it here. Tobi is perfect for finding an outfit for pretty much everything. Paired perfectly with these Karen Walker cat-eyes. Photos taken by my v amateur photographer friend Kosta (I think you did great).

Hello Red

SO LA, MY LOOKSFiona LeahyComment

Not sure if these are considered overalls or a jumpsuit, but I'm totally okay with wearing them like 6 days a week. After reviewing these photos, I think I've finally realized how red my hair is. Jesus. Also I clearly need to learn how to brush my hair. I've gone red off and on since I was a senior in high school and I have ruined many many towels and pillowcases since then. I've tried lots of different shampoos to help keep the color, and these work the best (here and here). Not sponsored, don't worry.

Had fun walking around one of my favorite neighborhoods in Los Angeles, near Vermont Blvd in Los Feliz. Really fun vintage shops in this area. And you HAVE to go to Tacos Tu Madre. Photos taken by my v talented 4ever pal, Adam Dillon.  Overalls by one of my favorite LA-made brands Flynn Skye, and in love with these sunglasses by Karen Walker.  Bucket bag (that I treat like my first-born) by Mansur Gavriel.

2017

INSPIRATIONFiona LeahyComment

Hi! I'm back! And it's been so long that I hope to never leave this long ever again. It's been a lengthy cat nap and some sort of writer's block. I have been extremely busy with exciting and not-so exciting things this past year. Also, I became slightly discouraged to write; I felt like I was contending against others on the internet that are ~brand ambassadors~ for teeth whiteners and ugly watches. Which obviously I can't even compete with. I have spent this time trying to get inspired. Stopping at every newsstand I pass by to flip through Vogue Italia without paying $14.95, watching Gucci runway shows while virtually foaming at the mouth, and going to Barney's to touch absolutely everything. So stepping into 2017 I have a few tips to share with all of you xx

1. Don't wear a band tee that you can't name at least 5 top hits from

Okay, so maybe I'm telling you to grow up and not shop at Brandy Melville. If you're older than age 17 it is time to broaden your horizons past 'one size fits most'. But also don't be wearing a Joy Division shirt if you can't tell me who Ian Curtis is. And don't be that girl when a guy comes up to you trying to start small talk before offering to buy your tequlia soda and you're wearing a Led Zeppelin shirt and you recite that your fav LZ song is 'Stairway to Heaven'. I'm just trying to help you out. Solution to this: if you like the vintage t-shirt look try to thrift store hunt for old shirts with fun graphics on them. Wash, dry, and cut them appropriately so they have a more worn-in look. I'm trying to find a photo reference but can't find a good example, I'll add one if I find one or take one of myself. ~stay tuned

2. Stop wearing black everything

I'm guilty of this for maybe 300 days out of the year. Which isn't how I used to dress at all but I got in the habit of it. When wearing all black it is like you wear the same thing everyday. It kind of reminds me of the dress code during my days (actually, years) as a waitress when I worked at an Italian restaurant and permanently smelled like garlic bread. Dark times. But at the same time I'm not telling you to buy other colors if they're just going to sit in your closet.  If you're most comfortable in black, try changing it up with wear it with a floral scarf and fun lipstick shade. Or just wear something over-the-top like the photo above.

3. Oversized Jackets

Okay, so Rihanna might have something to do with this one. I really do love this look with skinny jeans and booties. Makes it look like you maybe tried but really didn't.

4. Throw out your 5 inch heels

Yes it is time to take my Steve Madden ratchet pumps from Freshman year homecoming to Goodwill. They shouldn't have even made the lifespan of  making it to a Hollywood nightclub at age 18 with a fake ID.  Unless you have the closet space ( lol I don't), there is no need to hang onto these. Shorter heels are in. Invest in a cute pair of mules or sandal slides to wear everyday with denim.

5. Mansur Gavriel

So this might be a more personal one because lately I've been OBSESSED with Mansur Gavriel. The designers debuted in 2012, New York designed handbags made in Italy. They also make shoes as well (I'm size 39 if anyone wants to sponsor me). They're moderately priced so maybe I can afford one if I stop getting parking tickets and become okay with drinking wells vodka. The bucket bag is their signature look. I see one in my future for 2017.

MCxMN Launch Party!

SO LAFiona LeahyComment

One of my favorite LA designers and sweet friend, Marrin Costello, launched her new collaboration collection with *~celebrity~* wardrobe stylist Mercedes Natalia. Pretty pearls, delicate chains with a feminine chic vibe. The collection is AMAZING. Can I have one of everything? K thx. The styling in their lookbook is drool-worthy and after flipping through it you'll have to accidentally leave it at your boyfriend's house with everything you want circled in it. Really though.

The event took place at my go-to spot in LA to go get my makeup done, the Nars boutique on Melrose. Super cute if you've never been, totally better than going to a department store makeup counter. Here are a few of my favorites from the MCxMN collection (featured above): Polkadot Bralette ($238), Thread Earrings ($48), and Pearl Drop Lariat ($88). Check out her entire line here

Here are a few photos from the pretty pretty event. Thank you Marrin so much for having me!! xx

Moody Blues

MY LOOKS, SO LAFiona LeahyComment

It's finally starting to get a little bit brisk here in Los Angeles. But obviously not that cold if I'm still able to wear a dress with bare legs. One of my favorite throw together go-to looks is wearing an oversized dress with booties. The style is chic and totally effortless. And if you really want to go a step further and look like you have your life together, just brush your hair. I'm sporting a pair of velvet shoes that make me think of Lana del Rey and blueberry pie all at the same time.

Had a fun day with my sister today at Barbara's Brewery, one of the most hidden gems in East LA. If you like artist's lofts, succulents and an IPA, you have to venture out here sometime. Dress from LF, bag by Ted Baker London, shoes by Report Signature, and sunglasses by Wildfox Couture.

You Make It Real

SO LA, MY LOOKSFiona LeahyComment

An easy on-the-go outfit featuring my favorite basics for the not so basic. Tank and leggings by one of my favorite Los Angeles-made brands, Morrison Grey. Each piece is carefully dyed to transform into your new favorite everyday shirt. I wear mine anywhere from underneath a blazer to the office to over a sports bra to pilates. It's challenging to find any shirts made with super soft modal that doesn't start accumulating small little annoying holes everywhere after a couple wears. I have worn and washed all my Morrison Grey tops several times and they always stay in ~PeRFeCT CoNDiTioN~*

Chelsea booties by Rag and Bone, photos by my very dear friend Jose Gallina. You can find Morrison Grey here! More to come xx

MY LOOKSFiona Leahy1 Comment

I don’t particularly look like my parents.  Like I’m sure never anyone has questioned if I was adopted or anything (except one time someone asked my dad if I was his mail-ordered bride, but that’s a completely different story) but I don’t look like a younger doppelgänger of either one of them. Yeah I have my dad’s teeth, my mom’s nose. My dad is responsible for my dyslexia and I chew off a manicure when I have anxiety the same way my mom does. But for the most part, many people have told me I look like my Grandma.  And it is SUCH a compliment. She was homecoming queen, mother of 10 kids (10!!!) and had the biggest heart you could ever imagine. I lost my Grandma last summer. When flying back to attend the service I asked my Grandpa if I could have something of hers to remember her by. I didn’t have interest in her jewelry (I mean I did, but she had five daughters so it’s not like I’m going to win any in that category) or the family bible (which is actually already missing). I had my eye on obtaining a multicolored beaded jacket. Shoulder pads and itchy polyester tag, I wanted it all. This is one of my most prized possessions. I find myself putting it on just for fun when wanting to feel fancy while cleaning my house or wearing it out on a Friday night. I think I’ve had more use out of it than my Grandma ever did.

I styled this piece of hers for this look. I love adding one of her vintage pieces to an everyday look. When wearing a loud piece I like pairing it with a LBD to balance it out or dressing it down to look more casual with skinnies. The trick to pulling off obnoxious outdated-decade pieces: confidence. If you don’t think you can pull it off, don’t do it. Being comfortable wearing a conversation starter is key. I find myself always getting compliments when wearing out her clothing. I feel her with me all the time.

These photos were taken downtown Los Angeles outside the Bradbury Building, one of the most historical buildings in this city. I know if this place from the movie 500 Days of Summer; the interior staircases are well worth stopping in for a look. My hair color in these pictures is the same color I remember my grandma's hair, I did this subconsciously though ;) Photos by Chris Canon

Abbot Kinney For The Night

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

Saying farewell to the Me Undies pop-up shop on Abbot Kinney last night. Had so much fun with my SF babes in town for the weekend. Photographed with gal pals  Ariana Lauren from Fashion Born, make-up artist Christina Aguayo . Photos taken by Ryan Chua.

Totally overly head over heels in love with this floral romper I'm wearing. I'm drawn to anything floral; long rompers are a favorite too. They're such an easy go-to outfit with no effort. I wore them out with sandals for a more casual look since the event was in Venice, but I would usually wear them it out with wedges for a more prominent flared bottom. Romper is by Novella Royale ( Southern California based), quartz ring by Androgyny Designs, turquoise ring by Vanessa Mooney, necklace from Urban Outfitters, sandals from Steve Madden, and purse by Marc by Marc Jacobs

I Love You, Mom!

INSPIRATIONFiona LeahyComment

Happy Mother's Day! I have had this photo of Sasha Pivovarova on my wall since it was the August 2013 issue of US Vogue. Since 2013, I've moved to a new apartment and this picture came with me from one bedroom wall to another. I absolutely adore it; It is eye level when I'm sitting at my desk and I never can get over how perfect this photo is with her swinging her baby wearing the most chic outfit.

I'm also totally obsessed with these pictures of Kate and her daughter Lila. I came across the black and white picture on Tumblr this morning and I verbally screamed at my computer from being semi-offended about how insanely amazing this is.

I hope everyone has a lovely day with their mothers today. My mother is the most caring, strongest, thoughtful, and self-less person I have ever met.  She has traveled the world with me: we've crossed the border to Cambodia by foot, ziplined through the jungles in Costa Rica, climbed the volcanic rocks in Hawaii, took me to the hospital when I got attacked by a monkey in Thailand, took me on my first trip to Washington DC, berry picking in Canada, horseback riding in Santa Barbara.....just to name a few. I don't tell her enough how much I appreciate everything she has done for me. Or if I've ever truly apologized for being a terror in my teen years and breaking the refrigerator during a house party when she was out of town and for her to come home to the entire house smelling of rotten food (I'm so so sorry Mom.)

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have my Mom. I don't know if she ever reads my blog but I love you mom! xoxo

Purple Magazine X Milk Studios

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

The only thing  in my life that was equivalent to having a Purple Magazine party in Los Angeles is when Boiler Room came to this city last summer. I have worshipped this publication like a holy testament that is responsible for my life aspirations. Every page feeds my soul and contains the most beautiful images. Inspirational to say the least.

The event was to celebrate the new exhibit at Milk Studios, Anthracite by Oliver Zahm. See more photos from the party here.

I'm wearing a dress by Burning Torch (made out of one of my favorite textiles, cupro), hat by Brixon, leather shoes from All Saints and clutch from Urban Outfitters. My unbelievably amazing nail ring was custom made by Androgyny Designs, I'M OBSESSED. All the jewelry from Androgyny is made here in LA by the cutest sweetest gal named Courtney. Luv her.

My arm cuff and body chain are a little preview of what I will be taking with me to the desert to Coachella. They are both made by London designer Gina Melosi. Her pieces are made out of recycled metals and fair-trade gemstones. See more here.

Photographed with my gal pal Talia Giordano.

Fashion Tap Launch Party !!

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

It's like I almost need a pair of tap dancing shoes for this one. Was so excited to be invited to join the launch party for Fashion Tap the app! The party took place in a hidden gem of a mansion tucked away in the suburbs of old Hollywood. The house was built in the 1920's (which is considered old in this always changing city), and has been used for numerous movie sets and commercials (Gone Girl being one of the latest). This house was absolutely CRAZY. From the vintage floral wallpaper to bookshelf doors, this house was one of the coolest places I've ever been to in Los Angeles. My friend Brooke and I got a little carried away with the excessive snapchatting in this castle, but yolo.

Fashion Tap is a new social media app created by Amy from Fashion Nerd! The name Fashion Nerd fits her so well; her quirkiness reminded me of Jess from New Girl but she had style as if she could be sitting front row at Balenciaga. The fashion blogger herself created a platform where you can tag your article of clothing by brand, and if someone purchases it you make commission. Basically just gives you a reason to feel less guilty about your shopaholicism. I got to meet so many new fashion enthusiasts and bloggers. The gifting suite included brands such as Love and Leather, Members Only, Tobi, Wildfox Couture (I got their Twiggy sunglasses and I haven't taken them off since), and so many more!

I was wearing a dark teal Helmut Lang dress and all my pretty jewels were from Marrin Costello. Her pieces are so easy to layer to make them look so elegant and chic. My favorite is the druzy stone choker with the gold chain links. See her whole collection here!

Pictured with my bombshell blonde BFF/future publicist Brooke, blogger/model gal pal Makaila from A Royal Riot and my very dear photographer friend Ryan from Ryan by Ryan Chua.

What To-Do On Valentine's Day Because You Don't Have A Valentine

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

If someone hasn't asked you to hangout Saturday night at this point, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you that you probably won't have a date. And that's totally fine, boys kinda suck anyways. I mean if you enjoy his company I would say yes to the date, but don't go out of your way desperately looking for some #romance.  As much as I joke about my romance-less life, sometimes I do miss having someone to do everything with. Instead when I need a last-minute plus one to an event I go down a list asking all the same guy friends that I call when I need to put together Ikea furniture. When I ask a guy friend "what are you doing tonight?" he doesn't know if I'm calling about an open bar magazine issue release party with my babe model friends to introduce them to or if I need help building a credenza. Anyways, I've put together this hot list of activities you can indulge yourself into on Saturday because if you're single (or cynical) on this inconsequential holiday, calories don't count.

1. Wine Tasting On Your Couch- Pretty self-explanatory, but underrated. I'm really into pinot noir lately...~swoon

2. Watch Gossip Girl- DON'T watch the romantic episodes. Instead watch the episodes when Chuck trades Blair for the Empire (still upset over this). Or the episodes where Blair is dating Dan Humphrey (still makes me cringe to this day that Blair would date someone from Brooklyn.)

73c6b1c9596d87d117ba00bbe9086963.jpg

3. Make an obnoxious dessert and eat it all- IT'S 2015 AND CHEESECAKE FILLED STRAWBERRIES ARE A REAL THING. Get the recipe here

4. Shooting Range- If seeing some girl that you haven't talked to since junior year of high school post a photo of  flowers she got delivered to her office accompanied by a box of chocolates she probably won't even eat because she's afraid they have gluten in them makes you want to put a bullet in something, then shooting range might be a good idea. I'm not a violent type of gal, but if you're feeling distraught over how your last beau broke your heart this might be a good way to get some of your words left unsaid out. If you're in LA visit the LAX Firing Range, here

5. Mondrian Hotel Sky Bar- Because what's a better way to celebrate anything than being poolside with a refreshing cocktail. The lychee one is my favorite. AND on Valentine's Day they're having a little day party with DJ Best Ghost (I'm a fan girl for him). Event info below.

6. Buy yourself flowers- Go ahead, you don't need someone to buy them for you. You can post them on Instagram and hashtag #secretadmirer and pretend that someone left them on your porch. I won't tell anyone.

7. Drive!- Have no destination and see what you stumble upon. Go up the coast and stop at hidden coffee shops. Drive up PCH to Malibu and go to one of my favorite spots on the pier, Malibu Farm. The Swedish Mini Pancakes are like one of my favorite things ever. The view is perfect. Go to a place you've always wanted to go to before. Drive to Salvation Mountain. Discover an ivy covered garden cafe. Make cheesy Valentine's Day cards and give them out to cute baristas.

Teal Kitty goes to 21st Annual SAG Awards

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

So yeah, I totally attended the SAG Awards. I can't believe I got to go to such an event and still the entire thing feels so unreal to me. It's so different watching an award show when it's not through a TV screen, and it was soooo LA. Most importantly, the red carpet fashion deserves a double high-five like the emoji. Some of my favorites were: Julianna Marguiles in the most stunning deep cobalt blue gown made by Giambattista Valli,  Rosamund Pike in the most gorgeous black floral dress by Dior Haute Couture, and I LOVED Julie Bowen's dress so much that I personally told her that she looked like a princess. She wore an intricate beaded dress that had the prettiest detailing, I think you need to see it up close to really appreciate it. She told me it was made by Georges Hobeika.

After the award ceremony, there was an after party put on by People Magazine. The award show took place at The Shrine downtown and the after party was under a decadent tent out back; and it looked completely different then the last time I went there (for a Steve Aoki concert many moons ago lol). I would estimate that I ate a total of 12 macarons throughout the night, don't worry I switched up the flavor every time. I had a pleasure of meeting some *~STaRS~* throughout the magical evening. I feel like such a fan girl having all these pictures but yolo idk.   I mean I seriously really am SAG-elligable so I guess that maybe counts for something, right?

I'm wearing a short dress because the only long dresses I own are prom dresses (ask me how many times I attended prom, that's a good lol) and I can't re-wear those for picture reasons. So I settled with wearing the LBD by Herve Leger, shoes by Isabel Marant, purse by Topshop  and earrings are Kate Spade. Photographed with Naomi Watts, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Alexa Chung For AG Jeans!

SO LAFiona LeahyComment

The 'It' girl is back at it again. Alexa Chung debuts her collaboration with AG Jeans. The collection is more than just denim; it includes overalls that don't make you look like you own a tractor and fitted ribbed tees that is perfectly paired with any pair of denim. Alexa had a little launch party at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills last Thursday night; the event included Moscow Mules with decorative straws and a photo booth (my fav). So fun to have Alexa Chung be apart of a LA based company, and she looks so stunning in the ad campaigns! Shop the entire collection here.

Night of Generosity 6th Annual Gala

A DAY IN THE LYFE, SO LAFiona LeahyComment

Attended Night Of Generosity 6th Annual Gala last Friday night at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Generosity is a humanitarian organization that is dedicated to bringing clean water to developing countries such as Haiti and India. The event was hosted by Queen Latifah and Jason Kennedy, and honoring Megan Fox and her husband Brian Austin Green. I met and talked with Brian and now I regret never watching the original 90210 so we could have had more to talk about. Other guests included Mike Posner who performed and I also met Ashley Benson. So I know all girls are going to kill me, but just like Twilight I don't watch Pretty Little Liars. I've tried to watch and to be honest the show is kinda scary and the only time I ever watch TV is right before I go to bed and I don't want to get nightmares. I know, I suck.

The night was very elegant, and so LA. xx

Wearing LBD by James Perse and shoes by Dolce Vita.
