MY LOOKS, SO LAFiona LeahyComment

It's finally starting to get a little bit brisk here in Los Angeles. But obviously not that cold if I'm still able to wear a dress with bare legs. One of my favorite throw together go-to looks is wearing an oversized dress with booties. The style is chic and totally effortless. And if you really want to go a step further and look like you have your life together, just brush your hair. I'm sporting a pair of velvet shoes that make me think of Lana del Rey and blueberry pie all at the same time.

Had a fun day with my sister today at Barbara's Brewery, one of the most hidden gems in East LA. If you like artist's lofts, succulents and an IPA, you have to venture out here sometime. Dress from LF, bag by Ted Baker London, shoes by Report Signature, and sunglasses by Wildfox Couture.

Teal Kitty Takes Playboy Haunted Mansion

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

There are some nights that I have in LA that are so good that the first thing I do when I wake up the next morning, is call my dad. Even before reviewing what I want to delete off my snapchat story or looking in a mirror to see how raccoon my eyes look. "Hi Dad, I went to a Halloween party at the Playboy Mansion last night." He had a few questions and concerns.

I'm really not good at Halloween at all. The concept of me trying to  create my own costume from scratch via sewing machine gives me such bad anxiety that it makes me want to crawl under my sewing machine desk and cry. I whipped this costume together without financial damage, just creating an unforeseen tornado in my room and my bathroom sink looked like  we sacrificed the blood of a small mammal.  I wish I was more of a Pinterest hoe and could give you all these DIY ideas on how to look bomb dot com on this spooky day or wish that I didn't have ADHD and could make it through a YouTube makeup tutorial further than 30 seconds. But honestly I just threw something together within minutes. Thrift store shopping is my go-to. I love digging through racks to come up with inspiration. I have THREE more costumes I need to come up with to get through this weekend. Tell me all your ideas!!

I don’t particularly look like my parents.  Like I’m sure never anyone has questioned if I was adopted or anything (except one time someone asked my dad if I was his mail-ordered bride, but that’s a completely different story) but I don’t look like a younger doppelgänger of either one of them. Yeah I have my dad’s teeth, my mom’s nose. My dad is responsible for my dyslexia and I chew off a manicure when I have anxiety the same way my mom does. But for the most part, many people have told me I look like my Grandma.  And it is SUCH a compliment. She was homecoming queen, mother of 10 kids (10!!!) and had the biggest heart you could ever imagine. I lost my Grandma last summer. When flying back to attend the service I asked my Grandpa if I could have something of hers to remember her by. I didn’t have interest in her jewelry (I mean I did, but she had five daughters so it’s not like I’m going to win any in that category) or the family bible (which is actually already missing). I had my eye on obtaining a multicolored beaded jacket. Shoulder pads and itchy polyester tag, I wanted it all. This is one of my most prized possessions. I find myself putting it on just for fun when wanting to feel fancy while cleaning my house or wearing it out on a Friday night. I think I’ve had more use out of it than my Grandma ever did.

I styled this piece of hers for this look. I love adding one of her vintage pieces to an everyday look. When wearing a loud piece I like pairing it with a LBD to balance it out or dressing it down to look more casual with skinnies. The trick to pulling off obnoxious outdated-decade pieces: confidence. If you don’t think you can pull it off, don’t do it. Being comfortable wearing a conversation starter is key. I find myself always getting compliments when wearing out her clothing. I feel her with me all the time.

These photos were taken downtown Los Angeles outside the Bradbury Building, one of the most historical buildings in this city. I know if this place from the movie 500 Days of Summer; the interior staircases are well worth stopping in for a look. My hair color in these pictures is the same color I remember my grandma's hair, I did this subconsciously though ;) Photos by Chris Canon

Overalls=Boy Repellent

MY LOOKSFiona Leahy1 Comment

I've never met a guy who says that they like girls in overalls. Just like all guys hate high-waisted jeans. But it's perfectly fine since I've lost faith in most all of the male species (with exceptions to my father and my friend's dog Jackson). I found these denim vintage Calvin Kleins at Salvation Army, and I'm pretty sure my mom had the same ones in like 1997.

I met with founder and head designer of Morrison Grey, Marco, a few weeks ago. We instantly  clicked and bonded over our obsession with thrift shop treasures. He shared with me his inspirations for his line and how it has completely taken off since launching last fall. Morrison Grey is a LA made clothing line who is only on it's second season and already making the racks at Saks. The line contains the most intricately dyed fabrics on the softest textiles. To be completely honest, I wore this black long sleeve shirt three days in a row. I actually physically real-life could not take it off. It is my favorite thing. And it is perfect under any layers, paired with denim or under overalls. It is made of modal, one of my favorite natural fibers derived from beech trees.

Overalls by Calvin Klein, shirt by Morrison Grey, Chelsea booties by Rag & Bone, purse from Marc by Marc Jacobs and sunglasses by Celine. Debuting my red hair (totally obsessed) here done by my dear friend/LA-based hair stylist Paul Desmarre. Abbot Kinney For The Night

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

Saying farewell to the Me Undies pop-up shop on Abbot Kinney last night. Had so much fun with my SF babes in town for the weekend. Photographed with gal pals  Ariana Lauren from Fashion Born, make-up artist Christina Aguayo . Photos taken by Ryan Chua.

Totally overly head over heels in love with this floral romper I'm wearing. I'm drawn to anything floral; long rompers are a favorite too. They're such an easy go-to outfit with no effort. I wore them out with sandals for a more casual look since the event was in Venice, but I would usually wear them it out with wedges for a more prominent flared bottom. Romper is by Novella Royale ( Southern California based), quartz ring by Androgyny Designs, turquoise ring by Vanessa Mooney, necklace from Urban Outfitters, sandals from Steve Madden, and purse by Marc by Marc Jacobs

I Love You, Mom!

Happy Mother's Day! I have had this photo of Sasha Pivovarova on my wall since it was the August 2013 issue of US Vogue. Since 2013, I've moved to a new apartment and this picture came with me from one bedroom wall to another. I absolutely adore it; It is eye level when I'm sitting at my desk and I never can get over how perfect this photo is with her swinging her baby wearing the most chic outfit.

I'm also totally obsessed with these pictures of Kate and her daughter Lila. I came across the black and white picture on Tumblr this morning and I verbally screamed at my computer from being semi-offended about how insanely amazing this is.

I hope everyone has a lovely day with their mothers today. My mother is the most caring, strongest, thoughtful, and self-less person I have ever met.  She has traveled the world with me: we've crossed the border to Cambodia by foot, ziplined through the jungles in Costa Rica, climbed the volcanic rocks in Hawaii, took me to the hospital when I got attacked by a monkey in Thailand, took me on my first trip to Washington DC, berry picking in Canada, horseback riding in Santa Barbara.....just to name a few. I don't tell her enough how much I appreciate everything she has done for me. Or if I've ever truly apologized for being a terror in my teen years and breaking the refrigerator during a house party when she was out of town and for her to come home to the entire house smelling of rotten food (I'm so so sorry Mom.)

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have my Mom. I don't know if she ever reads my blog but I love you mom! xoxo

Fashion Tap Launch Party !!

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

It's like I almost need a pair of tap dancing shoes for this one. Was so excited to be invited to join the launch party for Fashion Tap the app! The party took place in a hidden gem of a mansion tucked away in the suburbs of old Hollywood. The house was built in the 1920's (which is considered old in this always changing city), and has been used for numerous movie sets and commercials (Gone Girl being one of the latest). This house was absolutely CRAZY. From the vintage floral wallpaper to bookshelf doors, this house was one of the coolest places I've ever been to in Los Angeles. My friend Brooke and I got a little carried away with the excessive snapchatting in this castle, but yolo.

Fashion Tap is a new social media app created by Amy from Fashion Nerd! The name Fashion Nerd fits her so well; her quirkiness reminded me of Jess from New Girl but she had style as if she could be sitting front row at Balenciaga. The fashion blogger herself created a platform where you can tag your article of clothing by brand, and if someone purchases it you make commission. Basically just gives you a reason to feel less guilty about your shopaholicism. I got to meet so many new fashion enthusiasts and bloggers. The gifting suite included brands such as Love and Leather, Members Only, Tobi, Wildfox Couture (I got their Twiggy sunglasses and I haven't taken them off since), and so many more!

I was wearing a dark teal Helmut Lang dress and all my pretty jewels were from Marrin Costello. Her pieces are so easy to layer to make them look so elegant and chic. My favorite is the druzy stone choker with the gold chain links. See her whole collection here!

Fi takes wine country! Made a day trip to Chalk Hill while I was up north. I can never say no to wine tasting, and the weather was unreal gorgeous. I always say that I need a vacation from my vacation-like lifestyle. This was the perfect little getaway. I can always use a glass of wine (or seven).  Thank you Roth Winery for having me!

Wearing this adorable dress by Free People, I'm obsessed with anything with flared hippie-like sleeves. And  my everyday Rag and Bone booties and Celine sunglasses.

Happy Birthday, Kate!

INSPIRATIONFiona LeahyComment

Forever my queen, Kate Moss turns 41 today. Here is a small collection of some of my favorite photos of her. Kate has always been such an inspiration to me. I first fell in love with fashion through an Yves Saint Laurent ad back in 2008 that she was in. Ever since I always have to reblog every photo I come across of her on Tumblr and I buy every magazine that she graces the cover of. In the March 2013 issue of Vogue, one of my favorite writers Jonathan Van Meter wrote a piece named Follow Me about how social media has changed the model industry and models such as Kate Upton (not to be confused with Moss) were discovered by selfies. Van Meter closed the article with this, and it has always stuck with me:

"But even in this social media–besotted world of ours, mystique still has value, doesn’t it? If, when it comes to models, Kate Upton is the bodacious—and gravity-defying—Marilyn Monroe and Cara Delevingne is the let-it-all-hang-out Lena Dunham, Kate Moss is the never-let-’em-see-you-sweat Greta Garbo. She has not once tweeted or “liked” a single thing in her fabulous life, and yet she is, arguably, the most intriguing person modeling has ever known. “Kate is Kate,” as one fashion person put it to me. “She can do whatever she wants.” Like that pitch-perfect cover of Playboy that seemed to sell out on New York newsstands in one day. When I took my seat at Marc Jacobs’s Louis Vuitton farewell show back in October, I picked up the requisite folder off my chair and flipped through the list of models and looks. Included among the sheaf of exquisite black stationery was a letter from Jacobs. Its theme: “the showgirl in all of us.” Among the list of the 34 women who inspire him, Kate Moss was the only model who made the cut."

Read the entire article here. Anyways, happy birthday Kate! You are a style icon forever.

10 Things To-Do In Dublin

TRAVEL, MY LOOKSFiona LeahyComment

1. 37th Dawson Street- Of course my number one thing to-do in Dublin would be a bar. Irish people really enjoy their whiskey and I'm learning to keep up (or at least fake it, don't worry dad). I absolutely loved this bar, it's trendy with the neon signs while having moose head taxidermy on the wall making you feel like you're in a cozy pub.

2. Stroll The Neighborhoods- Something that I was totally unaware of before getting here is that all the houses have like the cutest doors ever. It's actually like a 'thing.' It's a decorative and historical thing to have a colorful painted door, read the full story by clicking the link.

3. Collect Sea Glass On The Coast Of Dun Laoghaire- Find ocean treasures scattered across the beaches and put it all in a little jar and make yourself a souvenir! About a 20 minute DART ride out of the city.

4. Grafton Street- Ireland's world famous shopping and culture street! It is gorgeous during the holiday; it's covered in sparkling lights and has multiple decorated Christmas trees. They have some of the same shops as the do in LA such as Topshop, Ted Baker, Zara etc. I fell in love with the store Brown Thomas; It's a high-end luxury department store that I would compare to Saks. I started salivating over the Celine Phantoms (per usual).

5. National Museum Of Ireland- So I'm not much of a history nerd like my sister, but she dragged me here. I appreciate history and all, but there's only so much I can take before it all looks the same to me. They have an exhibit here on the 'bog people.' Which are these super old dead bodies they find in the bogs that are preserved because of the environmental conditions (gross). So basically, I walked in kinda scared but I survived and it wasn't too terrible. I even found it fascinating. I made my sister walk into the rooms first, and then I would walk in subconsciously doing a wink face with one eye open.

6. Irish Breakfast at Gerry's- If you're in Ireland, obvi you have to get an Irish breakfast. It's all the rage here and they take it very seriously. Personally I'm not much of a breakfast type of gal, but you gotta get it if you're here. If you don't want to eat the black pudding no hard feelings, I have a hard time eating it too once I found out what it's made of.

7. Brazen Head- The oldest pub in Ireland! OPEN SINCE 1198. How crazy is that?! It's like as if you just stepped into a time machine. This bar is super cozy, great atmosphere and funky decor. You have to visit while in Dublin!

8.Gunniess Storehouse- The number one visited place by tourists in Ireland.  This place is absolutely massive, and if you didn't like beer before you will now. It's a 7-story self tour through the factory. After finishing the tour, the top level is the Gravity Bar where you can see a panoramic view of Dublin through all glass windows while drinking a pint.

9. Bewley's- The cutest cafe on Grafton Street! You can come here for a casual coffee or sit down for lunch or dinner in the back room or upstairs. Shimmering chandilers hang from the ceiling and the walls are covered in vintage floral print wallpaper.  They have the best scones I've ever had in my entire life. Also I highly recommend the Irish coffee.

10. Trinity College- The most beautiful campus. My sister is attending graduate school here, and I swear it looks like Hogwarts or something. This is where you can find The Book of Kells (a 9th century gospel manuscript) in the Old Library if you're into historical things.

Night of Generosity 6th Annual Gala

A DAY IN THE LYFE, SO LAFiona LeahyComment

Attended Night Of Generosity 6th Annual Gala last Friday night at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Generosity is a humanitarian organization that is dedicated to bringing clean water to developing countries such as Haiti and India. The event was hosted by Queen Latifah and Jason Kennedy, and honoring Megan Fox and her husband Brian Austin Green. I met and talked with Brian and now I regret never watching the original 90210 so we could have had more to talk about. Other guests included Mike Posner who performed and I also met Ashley Benson. So I know all girls are going to kill me, but just like Twilight I don't watch Pretty Little Liars. I've tried to watch and to be honest the show is kinda scary and the only time I ever watch TV is right before I go to bed and I don't want to get nightmares. I know, I suck.

The night was very elegant, and so LA. xx

Barbie Loves Wildfox!

A DAY IN THE LYFE, SO LAFiona LeahyComment

Barbie LOVES Wildfox Collection launched and it's every girl's pink childhood dream come true.  It was a pizza party with grown-up drinks such as blush-colored martinis that matched my hot pink lipstick. The Swarovski crystal ice cream truck was back to serve sweet treats and hand out glowstick jewelry. Barbie's pink Corvette was parked out front next to the red carpet.  Party was at the new flagship store in Sunset Plaza, which looks even dreamier with the holiday light decorations outside right now.

My favorite pieces from the collection: Miss America Malibu Pullover, Call Me Walk Of Shame Tee, and the Happy Cat Oversized Sweatshirt. All the pieces are a fun funky look perfectly paired with high-wasited skinnies or vintage denim Levi cut-offs.

Wearing dress from For Love and Lemons, shoes from Isabel Marant, rock candy ring by Androgyny Design and candy-colored earrings from Kate Spade. Photo with blogger gal pal Talia from Feather Cat.

Take Me to Wildfox! Wildfox Couture Flagship Store Grand Opening 10/16/14

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

To this day, I’ve never read a company’s mission statement that I’m more in love with than the one for Wildfox Couture. “For dreamers, for lovers, for skinny dippers, for barefoot explorers, for late night chocolate eaters, for those who believe in love and themselves.” Wildfox is a whimsical dream; I have always been a fan of their quirky screen tees, legendary ad campaigns and watching their swim show at Miami Fashion Week.

I am SO excited for Wildfox to have their own store and it is conveniently located in the most charming blush colored bungalow located in Sunset Plaza on Sunset Boulevard. I attended the grand opening party of the flagship store last Thursday night, and to my prior knowledge I know that Wildfox parties don’t disappoint.

The party included a sushi bar, complimentary manicures, lavish floral arrangements, a ping-pong table and of course an ice cream truck covered in Swarovski crystals. Red carpet guests included Alessandra Ambrosio (who I haven’t seen since I attended her birthday earlier this year, lol) and Scott Disick (who kindly patted me on the back and said “excuse me”, another lol).

If you were to ask me what my favorite thing about Wildfox is, I would have to say their denim. The Marissa Boyfriend Jeans actually make my heart skip a beat, and the Marianne skinnies are the perfect compliment to any oversized tee. The denim designer, Michelle Siwy, is a dear friend of mine and her creations get more desirable by the minute. She even made overalls! I promise they’re cute.

I’m also so in love with the swim collection. Probably the cutest one pieces, like ever. Roam into the store and see for yourself. My words don’t do justice to how dreamy this place is. And I can’t think of any other adjectives that can describe the store other than dreamy, that’s why I’m so repetitive. Go visit Wildfox, it’s absolutely breathtaking!

I'm wearing a lace dress from Free People, leather jacket from All Saints and earrings from Kate Spade. Pictured with my lovely friend Monique Giselle.
