House of Harlow 1960 Pop-Up Shop X The Grove

SO LAFiona LeahyComment

More than the daughter of a musical legend and all grown up from her reality days on The Simple Life (showing that there is hope for all of us);  Nicole Richie has made a name for herself for being a fashion icon. Just a smidge above five foot, Richie has reinvented herself as a style savvy goddess. Nicole Richie is idol-esqué. I dont know if I've ever really said that I've idolized anybody except probably my father. So this is kind of a big deal.

I have been following Richie's line, House of Harlow 1960 for years. She has been the creative force behind the line since it launched back in 2009; the brand has a feel of vintage inspiration while being fashion-forward, as well as timeless all at the same time.  HOH is mostly known for it's fashion jewelry, being top-sellers at stores such as Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.  Nicole debuted her new line at a pop-up shop at The Grove and for the first time ever featuring clothing, sunglasses, home goods, jewelry and vintage pieces curated by Nicole herself. I attended the grand-opening party that had sushi rolls and bubbly,  and with all 5'1 of Nicole being swallowed in the crowd as she went around to greet her guests. At this event I was most excited about seeing the new clothing collection. When I first lock eyes with a garment it's a matter of seconds before I'm lifting up the left bottom corner to check the care-label. Textile classes have ingrained this in my habits to the point where it's just done subconsciously.Great story: one time I was on a first date and I was more concerned about this guy's shirt than how many siblings he had, and I honestly don't remember anything he talked about except for the fact that I actually real life asked him what kind of fabric his shirt was made out of. He did the typical shrug-shoulders-post-typical-guy-response of 'i don't know' mixed in with a  3 second dead stare where he probably asked himself where he found this girl....~(tinder :-)))))~ Moral of the story is this boy will forever be remembered in my heart and soul as 100% pima cotton xoxo. Annnyyyways, I was so impressed when looking at House of Harlow care label tags and reading that they are made here in the U.S.A! With some garments being made with fine silks, it is becoming harder and harder to find quality clothing being manufactured here. Even though they are more expensive, I am willing to pay more knowing that the maker was paid with fare wages.

My favorite pieces from the new collection are below! The House of Harlow pop-up shop will be open at The Grove in Los Angeles until July 19th and also can be found on their website.

Abbot Kinney For The Night

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

Saying farewell to the Me Undies pop-up shop on Abbot Kinney last night. Had so much fun with my SF babes in town for the weekend. Photographed with gal pals  Ariana Lauren from Fashion Born, make-up artist Christina Aguayo . Photos taken by Ryan Chua.

Totally overly head over heels in love with this floral romper I'm wearing. I'm drawn to anything floral; long rompers are a favorite too. They're such an easy go-to outfit with no effort. I wore them out with sandals for a more casual look since the event was in Venice, but I would usually wear them it out with wedges for a more prominent flared bottom. Romper is by Novella Royale ( Southern California based), quartz ring by Androgyny Designs, turquoise ring by Vanessa Mooney, necklace from Urban Outfitters, sandals from Steve Madden, and purse by Marc by Marc Jacobs

Shopping Guide: What To Buy Because You're Stuck In LA During NYFW

SO LAFiona LeahyComment

There's two times a year that I'm inevitably depressed and lay in bed wishing I was on the other side of the country. I have guiltily skipped classes in the past to watch live footage of the Marc Jacobs runway show sitting in the parking lot of my school. If you're stuck on the wrong coast like me, here's a few items that might make your week less dreadful. If you were in New York you wouldn't be able to enjoy floral maxi dresses or show off your pedicure, your fingers would probably feel like ice cubes, you would have chapped lips and your hair would probably not look that good tbh. Go lay in the sun and get an overdose of vitamin D and make everyone in the big apple jelly.

What To-Do On Valentine's Day Because You Don't Have A Valentine

SO LA, A DAY IN THE LYFEFiona LeahyComment

If someone hasn't asked you to hangout Saturday night at this point, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you that you probably won't have a date. And that's totally fine, boys kinda suck anyways. I mean if you enjoy his company I would say yes to the date, but don't go out of your way desperately looking for some #romance.  As much as I joke about my romance-less life, sometimes I do miss having someone to do everything with. Instead when I need a last-minute plus one to an event I go down a list asking all the same guy friends that I call when I need to put together Ikea furniture. When I ask a guy friend "what are you doing tonight?" he doesn't know if I'm calling about an open bar magazine issue release party with my babe model friends to introduce them to or if I need help building a credenza. Anyways, I've put together this hot list of activities you can indulge yourself into on Saturday because if you're single (or cynical) on this inconsequential holiday, calories don't count.

1. Wine Tasting On Your Couch- Pretty self-explanatory, but underrated. I'm really into pinot noir lately...~swoon

2. Watch Gossip Girl- DON'T watch the romantic episodes. Instead watch the episodes when Chuck trades Blair for the Empire (still upset over this). Or the episodes where Blair is dating Dan Humphrey (still makes me cringe to this day that Blair would date someone from Brooklyn.)

3. Make an obnoxious dessert and eat it all- IT'S 2015 AND CHEESECAKE FILLED STRAWBERRIES ARE A REAL THING. Get the recipe here

4. Shooting Range- If seeing some girl that you haven't talked to since junior year of high school post a photo of  flowers she got delivered to her office accompanied by a box of chocolates she probably won't even eat because she's afraid they have gluten in them makes you want to put a bullet in something, then shooting range might be a good idea. I'm not a violent type of gal, but if you're feeling distraught over how your last beau broke your heart this might be a good way to get some of your words left unsaid out. If you're in LA visit the LAX Firing Range, here

5. Mondrian Hotel Sky Bar- Because what's a better way to celebrate anything than being poolside with a refreshing cocktail. The lychee one is my favorite. AND on Valentine's Day they're having a little day party with DJ Best Ghost (I'm a fan girl for him). Event info below.

6. Buy yourself flowers- Go ahead, you don't need someone to buy them for you. You can post them on Instagram and hashtag #secretadmirer and pretend that someone left them on your porch. I won't tell anyone.

7. Drive!- Have no destination and see what you stumble upon. Go up the coast and stop at hidden coffee shops. Drive up PCH to Malibu and go to one of my favorite spots on the pier, Malibu Farm. The Swedish Mini Pancakes are like one of my favorite things ever. The view is perfect. Go to a place you've always wanted to go to before. Drive to Salvation Mountain. Discover an ivy covered garden cafe. Make cheesy Valentine's Day cards and give them out to cute baristas.

Alexa Chung For AG Jeans!

SO LAFiona LeahyComment

The 'It' girl is back at it again. Alexa Chung debuts her collaboration with AG Jeans. The collection is more than just denim; it includes overalls that don't make you look like you own a tractor and fitted ribbed tees that is perfectly paired with any pair of denim. Alexa had a little launch party at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills last Thursday night; the event included Moscow Mules with decorative straws and a photo booth (my fav). So fun to have Alexa Chung be apart of a LA based company, and she looks so stunning in the ad campaigns! Shop the entire collection here.

When In Rome....

TRAVEL, MY LOOKSFiona LeahyComment

Totally fell in love with Italy. A world where gluten-free doesn't exist and it is totally necessary to try a new flavor of gelato everyday. One of my favorite areas in Rome is Via del Boschetto. This is a trendy neighborhood in an ancient city. It is packed with pop-up floral stores, handmade jewelry, and my all-time favorite: vintage stores. The vintage shopping here is unreal. You will find designer vintage treasures in every other store. I would of shopped a lot more than I did if I wasn't backpacking across the country, but I just HAD to have this coat the moment I saw it. It's vintage Yves Saint Laurent. YSL forever is my favorite designer, and my first love. This coat is a alpaca, mohair and wool blend. Since the brand makeover of YSL turned into Saint Laurent Paris in 2012 due to the new creative director, I actually melt every time I see a vintage YSL label.

I found this coat at a small funky boutique, Pulp. And I still have nightmares about the Moschino floral sweater that I didn't end up buying. It'll probably haunt me for a couple more months to be completely honest.

Coat worn with all black everythaaang underneath, and Nikes since I seriously just walked all over the city all day. I would never wear workout shoes with this coat, but it kinda looks street style hip in some weird way. Right?
